The battle took place in the Texas Panhandle. It was recorded that Billy Dixon picked off an Indian Medicine Man from over 1500 yards with his Sharp rifle. Taking into account that the medicine man had the role of the spiritual leader for the Indian tribe, this caused great panic among the remaining warriors and caused them to flee the battle in fear for their own safety.
